World Music & Cultures SATB Repertoire
Ángel M. Vázquez-Ramos, World Music & Cultures Repertoire Chair
This academic year, I had the opportunity to either learn or revisit these four beautiful choral works. Studying them rekindled my love for exploring music that connects me to different cultures, languages, and traditions. I highly recommend checking them out—and if you’ve come across other pieces that you’ve enjoyed recently (or in the past), I’d love to hear about them!
Mo-Li-Hua | arr. Hyo-Won Woo
SATB with soprano solo
Walton Music | WW1573
This elegant setting of the beloved Chinese folk song “Mo-Li-Hua” (“Jasmine Flower”) features a soaring soprano solo and lush choral textures. Originating from the Jiangnan region, the tune celebrates the delicate beauty and fragrance of the jasmine flower—a symbol of purity and grace.

Muusika | Pärt Uusberg
SATB a cappella
Walton Music | WW1598
This hauntingly beautiful piece by Estonian composer Pärt Uusberg sets a reflective poem by Juhan Liiv. “Muusika” is a meditative exploration of the sacred and mysterious nature of music itself—gentle, reverent, and profoundly moving.
Lao Duang Duen | arr. Kittiporn Tantrarungroj
SATB a cappella Earthsongs | S-301
“Lao Duang Duen” is a Thai folk song that blends a graceful traditional melody with vibrant choral textures. Tantrarungroj’s arrangement retains the charm of the original, while adding rhythmic energy and rich harmonies. Another beautiful love song, it’s both fun and rewarding to sing.
